In the Immortal words of Erik Larson

"San Diego is the best of times and it's the worst of times. It's a blast and it's a drag. It's everything good and everything bad all rolled into one. And every year I hear folks say, 'I'm just going to have fun this year in San Diego.'" -Erik Larson

Every year I swear I'm no longer going to San Diego -
and every year I go.

I'm honestly not sure I can take it anymore - it's too much of everything. Everyone is so puffed up, and so overwhelmed, and is so self important and drugged up on charm that to me it just feels like High School on steroids. Add the adult stench of desperation and the sour sweat of tin-can dreams and you get a real sense of what it's like through my eyes.

But I kind of enjoyed Wednesday and Thursday and if I have to go again I'll stick with Wednesday and Thursday and avoid Friday - Sunday.

I'm back-

SDCC is a memory.
Relieved to be home.

Weapon Countdown to issue 3!

Been getting a lot of nice feedback from folks who have been looking at The Weapon on Drunk Duck. Everyone has been very. very nice - thank you one and all!

Nearly finished with Issue 4 of the Weapon - just finished dropping Tommy from an airplane. Poor guy really takes a beating.

Accelerated Schedule

Well, I must be on some sort of accelerated schedule because my feeling of fatigue and burnout lasted about 6 hours- I finished 3 pages of pencils and 7 of inks in the last 48 hours. Lucky me.
I guess I'll just use the drive down to San Diego as the vacation i so richly deserve before launching into the work I have to do at the Con (Conventions are work days for me, not relaxation, it took me a few years to figure that one out, I was never able to enjoy a convention until I realized that *because* I was in the field I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO).

Burned out-

Just really feeling burned out - barely got a half page done today. I'm fighting a cold and a persistent shoulder injury - the drawing arm, of course.

I've been going full tilt for a long time now (see the blog below for the results of even the last three month's work), and as I spin toward the finish line on the 4th issue of the Weapon and the 5th issue of the Fantastic Five I'm really feeling the results of not having a day off in 4 years.

Not really looking forward to trudging toward the San Diego Convention in the midst of tring to wrap up all of this work, and because of that I don't know if I'm going to enjoy myself or not. I don't know if I can put on a smile and say "hey - look at me and my awesome self!" when I feel so drained and exhausted.

Anyway - The Weapon issue 2 is out- pick it up if you can- the F5 issue 2 comes out this Wednesday.
I'll be at the San Diego Comic-Con on Wednesday at the HERO Initative booth #3848 from at least 6:30 - 7:30, doing sketches and whatver else they want me to do short of the kissing booth. Other than that I'll be wandering and loitering.

The DC project I did a few weeks ago was issue 6 of the Brave and the Bold - I was so happy about it, and I'm proud of how it turned out-

The Weapon 2 countdown revised!

Apparently the second issue of The Weapon comes out a week earlier than I thought - it is due on the stands on the 18th of July- only 8 days away!

The Weapon - why Paul Mounts is the greatest!

Paul rules!

San Diego news-

San Diego fast approaches- i'll be there on the floor at the booth for Hero Initiative on Wednesday (preview night!) from 6:30 tp 7:30. I think i'm going to wander around unburdened for most of the rest of the convention- I don't even plan on being near SDCC for the madness that will most assuredly be Saturday and Sunday-

Holy Cow - that was a lot of work!

Man - I just got 7 pages finished over the weekend, but I got it all in under the wire - and probably ahead of what folks thought I'd get done this weekend. My shoulder is killing me, my sports doctor says I popped some ribs out, but I got the secret DC project done!
Onto the last few pages of the Fantastic Five issue 4 on the early part of this week and then back to the Weapon issue 4 for the next 10 days! Hoorah! Whew!

The Weapon #2 Countdown at 24 days!

Currently busting my hump on the 4th issue of the Weapon, as the Weapon Countdown to issue 2 continues!
Above is my favorite scene from the 2nd issue of the Weapon!

The Mayan Apocalypse!

Only Americans could take a calendar written a thousand years ago, by a culture that was wiped out by the Portuguese, and make a claim that the Apocalypse is coming because the calendar wasn't finished. I'm guessing the calendar wasn't updated for the same reason the Dodo bird doesn't keep up with *it's* local calendar.

I think I'll go out and find a nice calendar for my wall of the year 2013. Maybe one with pictures of Jungle scenes and Mayan ruins on it.
